Believe it or not Bob and Nick’s legs were a little stiff and a tad sore when they woke up at 5am this morning. They were greeted by a grey overcast sky and a gentle warm breeze — great weather to run in. They had parked up at the Little Chef just beyond Redruth, so Brian had to drive them back down the A30 to where they had left off last night, as well tired bunnies. They stretched their limbs thoroughly before walking a short while to warm and loosen up and then the day began in earnest. Radio Kent did a live interview this morning after their first leg with Marie (Podge’s Mum) and Bob, Marie was very generous in her praise of the lads efforts. It also was a stark reminder of what Podge is going through as he had another hospital visit today for more injections prior to further operations. Pirate FM called for an interview while on the road today so Bob and Nick were able to publicly thank the lads & lasses at the Little Chef’s in Hayle and Redruth. The road was very busy, pretty much all day, although most of the drivers kindly moved away from the side of the road to avoid the two lunatics hobbling up the wrong side of the road. No trouble with the Police today — in fact when they stopped at the services near Indian Queens — they approached a whole gang of Policemen who were involved in stopping busses and lorries for spot checks, and got them to buy some tickets! The final leg of the run after lunch was extremely tough, they took about 90 minutes to complete the last six miles, Bob said “I have never before felt such pain and heat in my calves — there is no way I could run any further today!” Believe us when we say, both the lads are seriously looking forward to the visit of Barbara Wilmott — a massage therapist from the local area who has kindly donated a session for each. Then maybe, just maybe, they can make it as far as their beds tonight! Tomorrow is an action packed day, a marathon over Bodmin Moor in what is expected to be hot weather, two radio interviews and a half time appearance at the Exeter City football match with Crystal Palace — plus hopefully another massage by Barbara on those aching limbs... | |
