Bob Hayward & Nick Baldock have now run 24 consecutive marathons out of the 34 it will take to get to John O’Groats from Land’s End and in doing so have covered nearly 600 miles. This is all in aid of Podge the 13 year old boy who was so badly burnt in an attack last May. The most noticeable thing today was the focus of Ian their driver. Ian has been a great servant for three weeks. Waking before them, going to bed after them, cooking, cleaning, shopping and even emptying the ‘tank’ from the toilet in the motor home, known affectionately as “the cassette” try playing that on you’re stereo love and you’ll be mightily surprised! Ian was looking forward to Perth, a train back to Edinburgh and getting a flight back home to his family. He promised to think of them as he climbed into his power shower, as he wakes from a deep sleep in his deep comfy mattress. Well, they promise you Ian theyll be thinking of you you lucky b...b... bloke. Funny, they actually finished the day in Perth and quit near the train station, hmmm? And amazingly they later discovered they’d run more than 28 miles each day this week, hmmm? Was it only today that Ian was focussed on going home? Surely not, would he? Could he? Conspiracy theories abound when you are struggling with the last 6 miles. Thanks Ian you’ve brought them kicking and screaming from south of Bristol right to the heart of Scotland – Perth with a deep heritage, a long history and a struggling soccer team – St Johnstone. | |
